This week I released another one of my personal projects, music video of the song “Cry Me a River” to accompany my new album “Sentimental Swing” . Creatively, I wanted to keep this project really simple and straight forward. Because the song is very dark and emotionally deep. I was hoping to capture a nostalgic “film noir” feeling that would match the “old school” approach of the music which was recorded using retro ribbon microphones and vintage recording techniques.
Being a control freak, an audiophile, and a videophile, I decided to do everything myself as a sort of video self portrait. Gear was simple…one Sony HD camera on a tripod, one 500 watt flood light with a homemade snoot/barndoor device constructed of aluminum foil to direct the light, seamless white paper background in my living room, and an ipod to sync my video performance with the studio recording. A little editing in Final Cut and presto! A music video. A fun project completed on a quiet thursday evening. Click on the link below and enjoy!
